Photography Tips and Teachniques!

Photography isn't just taking pictures with a single click, It's actually a lot more than that! Some pictures have deep meanings, a story and precious memories. Here is an example:

Now, you may think that, "Oh! it's a portrait picture of a woman with bright green eyes, nothing special." Well no, you're wrong. Its not just a picture of a woman. The picture actually has deep meanings and backstories.

"Backstories? What do you mean?"

This picture was taken by a photojournalist named Steve McCurry in 1984. The woman's name in the image is Sharbat Gula, She was around 12 years old at that time and had fled to Afghanistan during a war with her family.

Her green eyes and expression actually indicates hardship and struggles by war and displacement. The image also shows strength and resilience of a child living through tough circumstances, making it a powerful image with deep meanings.

So now that you know the purpose of photography, I'm gonna show you some basic photography tips!

1. The Rule of Thirds

Rule of Thirds is a composition guideline that divides an image into nine equal parts to create a balanced and visually interesting shot.

How to apply Rule of Thirds in your photographs?

Place your main subject on the lines or where the line cross like this one:

Remember! Don't always keep your main subject in the center, it would look boring and basic... instead, use this composition technique in your photos to make it look less boring and interesting! :3

2. Lightings

There are four types of lightings in photography. Natural light, Artificial light, soft light and hard light!

Natural Light

Natural light in photography refers to natural light like sun or moon, It is one of the most commonly used light sources in photography.

You can also create some dynamic effects with natural light using shadows by objects like windows, trees or plants!

Artificial Light

Artificial light in photography is using light that's not natural. Like lamp, LED, strobe and etc...

Use Reflectors to redirect artificial light to fill in the shadows.

You can also use gels to add color to your lighting for creative effects, depending on what your trying to achieve.

 

Soft Light

Soft light in Photography is light that is smooth and soft. No harsh shadows making the subject look natural and flattering.

 Hard Light

Hard light in photography creates sharp shadows and only emphasizes the areas where you want the audience to focus on by using a small light source. You can do this by using a flashlight, LED pocket light or a candle.

3. Composition tips

Framing

Framing in photography is when you use something to surround or highlight the main subject like a picture frame! This makes the viewers focus on the subject, the one being framed

You can use anything to frame your subject, as long as it surrounds or highlights the main subject.

Leading Lines

Leading Lines in photography is when you use something to guide the viewers eye towards the main subject. You can use shadows, paths, fences or basically anything that makes a leading line.



It's also important to know your camera and it's settings so it'll be easier for you in the future!

4. ISO

Now, let's move on to ISO and its meaning. In photography, ISO stands for International Organization for Standardization. Low ISO is p
bright environments and it produces clear and sharp image While High ISO is perfect for dark or low light environments. But, the only problem is that your image will get a little grainy.

5. Storytelling through Photography

To tell a story in photography, choose a subject that represents your story, like a person or scene. Show emotions or actions to make the photo feel real. Play with light and color to set the mood, and include little details to give context. If you're using more than one photo, make sure they work together to show the story from start to finish.

6. Different Photography Styles

Portrait Photography

Portrait photography is all about taking pictures of people, usually focusing on their face. The goal is to show their personality and emotions with good lighting and clear details.

Landscape Photography

Landscape Photography is taking pictures of landscapes, natures and even buildings!

Macro Photography

Macro photography is where you take photos of the subjects details, that cannot be seen with naked eye.

Action Photography

Action photography is where you take pictures of subjects that is moving or in motion.
